Where style
meets confidence

Maria B. Polizzi has spent forty-three years behind the chair — cutting, coloring, and building hair for clients who have followed her for two decades. Cuts, color, balayage, extensions and toppers.

The work

Second generation, and it shows. Maria grew up in her father’s salon waiting for the day she’d be old enough to get behind the chair — and she has been there ever since.

What that buys you is judgment. She reads hair before she touches it — how it grows, how it holds color, what it will actually do on a Tuesday morning when you are the one drying it. The result is hair that looks like it belongs to you, cut and colored so it still works six weeks later.

The difference

One appointment.

Same client, same afternoon, same spot by the studio door. Sewn-in wefts, coloured to match and cut in until the join disappears.

Drag to compare

Extensions fail for one reason — they look like extensions.

Getting it right is not a product decision. It is a colouring and cutting problem: match the weft to your root, your mid-length and your ends, sew it flat so it sits under your own hair, then cut the whole head together until the two lengths become one shape.

The work

Two hundred heads of hair.

Every photo is Maria’s own work, shot in the studio the day it was done. No filters, no stock, no borrowed portfolios.

Specialties

Six things she does. All of them properly.

A rich auburn, hand-mixed and glossed to a shine

01/Color

Color that reads as yours

Maria mixes Wella color by hand for every head — reading your natural pigment, how much gray you're covering, and how the tone sits against your skin. The measure of the work isn't the swatch. It's the client who gets stopped in the grocery store and asked whether that's her natural color.

More on color
  • Root retouch and full base color
  • Gray coverage that keeps dimension
  • Glazes and toners to correct brass
  • Reds and coppers that hold
Fine-woven honey highlights blended through long layers

02/Highlights

Foil work with a light hand

Placement is the whole craft. Partial foils brighten the frame around your face; a full head builds dimension all the way through. Weave and thickness get adjusted section by section, so the result moves like hair instead of sitting in stripes.

More on highlights
  • Partial for brightness where light hits
  • Full head for depth and movement
  • Paired with a root touch-up when gray needs to go
  • Toned at the bowl before you ever see it dry
Hand-painted caramel balayage falling in loose waves

03/Balayage

Painted by hand, soft at the root

Freehand lightener, swept where the sun would have put it. Because there's no hard line at the root, balayage grows out gracefully — which is why it suits anyone who'd rather come in three times a year than every four weeks.

More on balayage
  • Hand-painted, no foil line
  • Grows out without a visible band
  • Finished with a glaze for tone
  • Cut and styled in the same visit
A soft silver pixie, cut close and styled with movement

04/Cuts

A shape built for your hair

Forty-three years of cutting means the shape gets built around your growth pattern, density, and cowlicks — not copied off a phone screen. Short, long, layered, blunt. Every cut is finished with a style, so you leave knowing exactly what it looks like done.

  • Precision cutting, wet and dry
  • Pixies, bobs, shags and long layers
  • Men's cuts and beard trims
  • Finished with a blowout every time
A custom-colored hair topper being built and blended on a block

05/Extensions & Toppers

Length, density, and coverage

Sewn-in wefts for length and thickness. Toppers for thinning through the crown or part. Maria colors and cuts every piece to match before it ever goes on, then blends it into your own hair until the join disappears. Hair loss gets handled here with care and without any awkwardness.

More on extensions & toppers
  • Sewn-in wefts — install, move-up, removal
  • Bang, partial and full crown toppers
  • Custom colored and cut in to match
  • Consultation first, always
Sleek, frizz-free lengths after a smoothing treatment

06/Smoothing

For hair that fights the humidity

A Brazilian Blowout relaxes the curl rather than erasing it, takes the frizz out entirely, and cuts your blow-dry time down for months. In a North Carolina summer, it's the service that gives people their mornings back.

More on smoothing
  • Frizz gone, movement kept
  • Dramatically faster blow-dry
  • Lasts through the humid months
  • Priced by hair length and density

Haircuts & Styling

Second generation

She grew up in her father’s
barbershop.

Madison’s, on Northern Boulevard in Queens. Maria spent most of her days on that floor waiting to be old enough to get behind the chair herself.

The shop is gone now. The trade came with her — to New York first, then to Raleigh in 1999, and into a room on Falls of Neuse with her own name on the door.

About

Hello, I’m Maria.

I moved to Raleigh from New York in 1999, and I’ve been immersed in the world of hair for over 43 years. Ever since I was a little girl I spent most of my days at my father’s salon, and I couldn’t wait until I was old enough to get behind the chair and begin my own journey.

I love creating styles that bring out my clients’ excitement and confidence, and my top priority is making sure everyone leaves my chair looking and feeling their absolute best. I’m looking forward to meeting you and getting my hands in your hair.

What she works with

  • Wella Color

In their words

I've been going to Maria for over twenty years. She does an excellent job of customizing my auburn hair color. A testament to her expertise is that people often stop me to ask, “Is that your natural color?” They tell me they love it! I'm 60, so of course I get a little help. I only trust my hair in Maria's expert hands.

Maureen S.

Client of 20+ years

Maria has been styling my hair for over 20 years (cut, highlight, style); I wouldn't think about going to anyone else. People often comment about how beautiful my hair color is and think it is all natural. My hair has been long, short, curly, straight, bangs, no bangs, and Maria has always made it look fabulous!
